A fashion that I am glad is evidently becoming part of history. Check out the statistics from Google trends: http://www.google.es/trends?q=ruby+on+rails.
Actually, I really like Ruby as a language. It is feature rich, powerful and elegant. But the rails framework never felt right. In a world of open, discrete technologies, Ruby on rails felt like a step in the wrong direction - far too prescribed and proprietary.
However, the real reason I am comforted to see the decline of Ruby on rails is that it represents a change in decision making. Probably a lot of people that choose ruby on rails were not the people that had to work with it, but most importantly it shows that perhaps people are actually starting to think about what technology they should employ to best accomplish the job in hand and not just choosing something 'cool' or 'fashionable'.
